Within the last month activity with Portage DSA has been ramping up. We are engaging in our first campaign to get laws changed at the local level. By that I mean we are working on getting LGBTQ+ non-discrimination ordinances passed in the city we are based out of. Just a few weeks ago I would have called this a fools errand, but now we are working with outside groups such as Equality Ohio and Indivisible Northeast Ohio.
At our last open meeting we had a representative from Equality Ohio in to talk with us and they provided us with a general framework on how to achieve this. Most of it involves attending council meetings to figure out who will oppose and support such an ordinance. Drafting legal language specific to the city we are in and meeting with local businesses and prominent citizens to form a coalition that makes it hard for the council to oppose.
I know the last post I made was about a year ago telling everyone that I would have couple pieces up about the intertwining of politics, economics, and morality, but that got sidelined as I got busy with my jobs and the chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) I am trying to help build in my community. I am still definitely working on that piece and one about Anarchism and its ongoing debate about whether or not it should hold democracy as one of its principles. While I work those pieces I will post more frequent updates about what I am doing with the DSA and maybe with the IWW if they ever process my membership stuff.
Within the week I should have a post up detailing some of the work I am doing with the DSA considering I am on my chapter’s organizing committee and am the Secretary. I should have an updated about section and there might be some changes to the blog overall. I haven’t got that far yet. Please hold me to it because I am a very forgetful person.
It has been awhile since I posted the introduction piece. So to make sure no one thinks I have just disappeared here is an update post.
Over the next month I plan to post to major pieces to the blog. One concerning democracy and its relationship to anarchism. The main impetus for this piece is my reading of Crimethinc’s critique of democracy. The second piece will concern ethical/moral philosophy, economics, and politics and their intertwinement. The impetus for this piece is my reading of various moral philosophers. I mainly want to use this piece to tease out my own understanding. Maybe in the process you can learn something as well.
In between these pieces I will have pieces concerning various aspects of American Politics from and Anarchist perspective.
An introduction is suppose to introduce you to the person behind the words, but I have no intention of doing so. The title should give you enough information to establish what the main thrust of this blog will be about. From there I hope you pick up the rest from the posts that I make.
